Effective Golf Swing Practice Tips

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Even with simple golf swing lessons, instructional videos and store-purchased aids, your golf game will continue the way it has been without consistent and efficient practice. Consistent because practice sessions involve exercises that are meant to develop muscle memory. Efficient because pacing your energy to the kinds of exercises you will do is important as well.
Simple as this point may sound, it is one that is easily overlooked. Many golfers think that as long as they spend enough time on the practice range, their score will improve. Unfortunately, that is not necessarily so. To improve your golf game as well as your golf swing it is important that your practice sessions be as regimented as the way you play the game itself, or more.
Before you complain about how boring golf swing practices are it might help to think that golf swing practices are what build good playing habits when you hit the greens. If you approach your practice sessions as more than a chore your golf swing training results will provide you more pleasure on the golf course.
Typically, golf practice sessions fall under one of the following three stages:
- Warm-up Stage
- Fresh Stage
- Fatigue Stage
In these three stages you will carry out different sets of golf swing exercises that when done properly will make your practices more effective. This will provide you results you can see on the course as you play.
Warm-up Stage
Many are deceived into thinking that golf requires no strenuous physical activity as it only involves swinging a golf club and walking. Nothing could be further from the truth. The very nature of swinging a golf club causes your muscle groups to work in ways not common to everyday routines.
Your upper torso, arms, and lower back muscles are the groups most impacted when playing golf. In order to avoid injury or strain it is important that you warm up by stretching before you head out on the course.
When stretching it is best that you start from the top of your head and work your way down to your feet. By doing so you will improve flexibility and prepare your muscles for a full range of motion. If you are unfamiliar with stretching exercises you should consult a trainer or the instructor in your club for some recommendations.
Fresh Stage
After your warm-up start working on exercises that build on a skill you have not mastered yet or on parts of your game that have been causing you higher strokes each round. This could be anything from putting to chipping or driving. The idea is that when you work on these problem areas while you are still fresh and limber from a stretch routine, your body responds more positively to the exercises you are doing.
The thing about most people is that their idea of golf swing practice is simply spending time on the driving range without even considering whether or not driving is their problem area. But if you are aware that your short game is what is giving you problems then you should hit the greens to work on your putting as soon as you finish warming up.
Keep in mind that it has been proven that more than 60% of a players golf strokes take place on the green. Unfortunately, this fact is overlooked by many players that result in poor golf practice habits and higher strokes per round!
Fatigue Stage
Once you start feeling winded from the earlier exercises move on to work on facets of your golf game that simply need reinforcement. Since your body already knows this motion this stage in your golf swing practice serves as maintenance to your form.
If any correction is necessary your stressed out body will not adjust to a difficult form. As in the previous example, only after working on your problematic short game can you then go to the driving range to give positive reinforcement to your drives.
In closing, you can show continuous improvement by establishing a good golf practice-to-play ratio such as 2:1 where you invest twice as much time in golf swing training as you do to playing golf. Make sure that you give yourself sufficient time to rest in between exercises and in between stages. While it is a work out you should not be too tired from the activity. Doing so may actually do more harm than good.
If you stick to this simple golf swing training plan you will see improvements in your game. Additionally, you will become a more consistent golfer and will begin to shave strokes off of your golf game.

The Golf Swing Lesson

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

For anyone who wants to play golf, swing lessons are usually a must; it’s like you can’t do without, since the correct movement is the very basis of this game. Before you start a golf swing lesson as such you need to ask and answer a fundamental question. What do you intend to do in the golf swing or what is the achievement you’re after? There should be square impact in the line of flight and along the one you intended in the first place. The golf swing lessons will teach you how to control the body moves so that the ball follows a well planned trajectory.

The best definition of the swing is found in professional books that provide golf swing lessons. It is explained as the movement that makes the head of the club swing along and into the intended line of flight throughout impact. You will thus learn how to propel the ball in a straight way between two points. The golf swing lesson tackles with the starting point, the targeted area and the movement that is meant to unite the two. Make sure the club-face remains square to that line. Follow your trainer’s example during the golf swing lesson, imitation engenders good learning.

The most important part of a golf swing lesson is to actually understand and apply the theoretical knowledge. If you keep the club-head square to the line of impact and drive the ball forward for as long a time as possible you actually meet the main principles and goals of a practical golf swing lesson. If the shot is accurate, the ball will be able to maintain its correct direction in the wind, which will definitely lead to low scores. If you manage to correctly use these golf swing lesson tips you can move on to finding out new stuff.

The most frequent mistake players make during golf swing lessons is to start the downswing by moving the shoulders first while keeping their feet motionless. The correct move – as the trainer will insist during the golf swing lesson – starts from the feet upwards. This means that the shoulders will be the last to move. If you manage to control this aspect, you may acquire great results, so do your best to get everything out of any golf swing lesson, since this is the ABC of golf playing as such!

Golf Swing Instructions

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

All the golf beginners are eager to learn and apply the golf swing instructions they find out during special classes, from magazines or the Internet. You may have watched professional players and wondered about the golf swing instructions that lie behind their training. We should begin by saying that most people who start learning golf often share the wrong impression that the arms are fundamental in this game. To a certain extent they are right, but as you are to find out, golf swing instructions require that the body and the arms create the move together.

If you’ve seen some “professional” player hit the ball by a very quick move of the arms, that will not be the person to take as a model. Golf swing instructions are clear about the coordination of feet, legs, trunk and finally, shoulder movement. This is the correct and only order to practice your swing. The first part of the golf swing instructions should mention that if you move the body slowly, you will actually hit the ball better, and it will go a lot farther. If you just slow down, you can better control the club centre, send the ball faster with less effort. This is a golf swing instruction worth remembering.

These golf swing instructions show you how to begin practice. Keep the club at waist height and let the body be the one to swing the club head. See how that feels! If you move your body weight from one leg to the other, the club will swing faster. This golf swing instruction should make you understand the speed principle of a basic golf move. Then, don’t simply think you’re going to hit the ball, since this will cause the arms to move faster. The golf swing instruction here is to shift the body weight and thus imprint force to the move.

It takes time and practice to actually follow the golf swing instructions your trainer may show you; remember this is a sport, so, training is everything. If you make an effort just to understand the logical principle of the golf swing instructions, you’ll be one step closer to more powerful, yet effortless moves. You may find it useful to have a look at a professional site such as Ultimate Golf Tips providing even more insight. Even if you choose to go on learning other golf tricks besides the swing ones, don’t forget that the latter are basic, you’ll always need them to do the rest.

Golf Swing Techniques

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

In order to master the real golf swing techniques there are only two guiding principles that need to be followed: rhythm and balance. Should you control these two, you may give great hits even with an imperfect golf swing. By rhythm, in the definition of golf swing techniques, we refer to the ability to repeat the same movement on a consistent basis and at a specific speed rate. As for balance in golf swing techniques, it is actually obvious when there is body stability. The perfect balance is achieved when the weight is evenly distributed on the feet.

How can you tell that a player masters the golf swing techniques? Well it is really simple for someone who can analyze the move from one end to the other. Watch a professional golf player right when the hit is complete. The finish always shows if there is balance and proves whether one knows the golf swing technique. You should be able to hold your position for a count of three. If that is not possible, then you don’t have a firm knowledge of the golf swing techniques and the shots you send may very well be errant. That really doesn’t work too well for your ego, does it?

One of the most common mistakes that could prevent one from mastering the golf swing techniques is over-swinging. Many players who try to get longer shots believe that with a longer arc, the speed of the club will increase. A very unfortunate golf swing technique is to over-swing and send the club-head in a totally wrong swing plane. Therefore, don’t take the club farther back than you can turn your shoulders. The best way to learn the correct golf swing technique is not to force the muscles of the arms into a movement that doesn’t match that of the body.

Set a daily practice drill to achieve the proper results in terms of golf swing techniques. This should train your muscles for a wider stretch and an improved control to create the arc you want without over-swinging. Moreover, a well-documented site such as Ultimate Golf Tips may help you improve the golf swing techniques that you are already using. You’ll be surprised that with proper practice you’ll have the tendency to develop some sort of independence when it comes to the golf swing techniques, and you will feel more in control of your game.

Golf Swing Tips

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Wouldn’t you simply like to be given some reliable golf swing tips? Though, there are voices who claim one should learn by trial and error, many professional sites provide reliable golf swings tips online. The body movement is everything in golf; this is why you need to learn how to actually feel the club as a natural extension of your body. Here are some golf swing tips to make you feel more natural and master your moves in the best way possible. You may use other sources to assist you: golf videos, swing instructions or friends’ advice, the important thing is not to forget you should be having fun.

One first golf swing tip for the peace of your mind is not to believe a setup to be too tough a challenge, as it is not. Most beginners who look for golf swing tips only need to brush their swing up a little and they’ll soon see improvements; it usually goes hand in hand with the hand grip of the club, so be careful with that too. Golf swing tips say that a too tight a grip will ruin the move; just relax and hold the club firmly but tension-free, otherwise you’ll kill the effect of the body swing. The club should make a forty five degree angle in front of you, so your club will be pointing forward.

Then another, golf swing tip would be to start the movement from the feet up and not vice versa. When you backswing you will also have to move the head in that direction too, thus creating some sort of axis, with the feet and the legs at the bottom. A golf swing tip says that when you hit the ball, your head should move three to even five inches to the right. After you made the shot, your head will move forward, a little over the tip of the left foot, creating a second axis and some sort of circular movement. Watch several professional players before you try this golf swing tip yourself.

Another golf swing tip would tell you to avoid putting too much speed in a swing. Those golf players that look fast aren’t necessarily good. Hitting the ball fast means that the arms move independently from the body, which totally contradicts golf principles. The real golf swing tip here is to make the body and arms move synchronically, meaning that the two would move like one, following the same speed pattern.

How to Perfect your Golf Swing Without Expensive Lessons

How to Perfect your Golf Swing

The difference between a good golfer and a great golfer, can more often than not, be put down their golf swing. At championships you will notice that there are many good golfers but there are always few who at the top in every event, time after time. Why? Maybe the perfect golf swing. . . ?

The perfect golf swing comes from several factors but the biggest is the angle from your body that your club head makes from the backswing right through until you have contact with the ball. Called the “golf swing plane” The swing plane should follow the same line on both the backswing and the swing its self.

A poor golf swing can rob you of:

Distance: Your shots just don’t make the distance; it could be up to 50 yards!

Accuracy: You go crazy with a lack of accuracy, you slice, and we have hooks, pulls, pushes – ouch!

Consistency: A lack of consistency (fat shots, topped shots, thin shots, toe/heel shots, sky shots, shanks etc, etc. )

So how can you close the distance between your game now and the game you would like to play? Is it curable, can you afford to fix the problem? How can you correct the angle you take?

Take lessons from a Golf Pro, buy the latest gadget? Sure you can go take a Golf Swing Lesson from a Golfing Pro and spend time on the driving range, or you can go and buy the very latest golf swing help device or a “golf swing trainer”.

The golf pro will stand back and watch the angle of swing on the way up in your backstroke and then watch the angle you take on the downward stroke. This information he will give you and try to help you correct the angle. After the lesson you will realise that it’s a lot harder to see from a distance than it is to feel your self actually doing it. You probably make some progress although not as much as you would like and golf is all about repeatability.

Maybe the latest gadget will help, but it will very probably end up in your closet!

Is there another way, a way that you can use and clearly see what you need to do to improve?

The answer is “YES”, if you have a 7-iron, a golf ball and a wall, then, yes there is, and it’s free! So OK, what is it, how do I do it?

Golf Swing Lessons

Isn’t what you’re looking for a consistent, reliable golf swing that you can count on at that first tee when everyone’s watching? People spend millions of dollars each year purchasing equipment and gadgets that promise them the perfect swing, when really they should be concentrating on the simple science behind a great golf swing. The fundamentals of the golf swing are based on scientific facts such as center of gravity, power, thrust, consistency triangle and more. If you take the tour players and break their swings down to the fundamentals; (like what happens at address, back swing, impact, and follow through), about 95 percent of what they’re doing is the same. Their swings look different, because each player’s swing has its own personality. But, fundamentally, their swings are very similar. They have to be, or they wouldn’t be playing on the tour. We’ve taken the golf-swing fundamentals and made them easy to understand, without the technical mumbo jumbo. Being a consistent ball striker or increasing your consistency on the golf course really begins with an understanding of the geometry of the golf swing and how to control it. I believe the golf swing is simple geometry and physics. Understanding this geometry and how the physics of the swinging motion tries to alter it is the key to becoming a consistent ball striker. I was always taught that the triangle running across your chest to shoulders and down your arms to the grip of the golf club was the triangle you had to maintain in order to create or maintain consistency in your ball striking. What I’ve discovered through the Center of Gravity golf method is this described triangle does NOT control consistency in ball striking and actually impedes the natural flow of the golf swing by trying to consciously control it. The real consistency triangle you must maintain throughout the swinging process runs from your Center of Gravity, (Use your shirt button as a reference point), to the knuckles of your big toes, (where the bunions grow) and back to the golf ball. This triangle formed at the address position must be maintained through the impact position in order to create a consistent bottom or impact point to your swing. When your target hand is allowed to be the boss of the golf club, the bottom of your swing will always be where your center of gravity is. You’re looking for results, and we’re going to put you on the right track to getting them. Incorporating these ideas into your swing easy but it will take time and practice. But as long as you’re working on the fundamentals, you’ll be working toward developing a consistently great golf swing.

Golf Swing Tips – Top 5 Golf Rubbish!

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

These are the top 5 golf swing tips handed down by generations of golf pros that are pure RUBBISH!!These 5 golf swing falsehoods have ruined more golf swings than I care to imagine. I believe these 5 so called “golf swing tips” are the reason the average golfer’s handicap has stayed the same for the past 20 years – Even with all the advancements in golf equipment technology. I will be pulling the curtain back on some golf swing tips you may consider as gospel. . . so please keep an open mind. Top 5 Golf Fallacies That Are Ruining Golfer’s Game:1. RELAX – Pure rubbish! How many times have you heard this golf swing tip from a golf pro or a playing partner? The golf swing is a violent action – is there any other violent action you take when you relax? – of course not – This is foolish advice. 2. Be Loose. This is the second cousin of “Relax”. When you are “loose” in the golf swing your hips are NOT restricted therefore you will NOT have that important coil in your backswing robbing you of much power. 3. Take The Club Back Inside – More rubbish! I’m sure you’ve heard many times how the correct golf swing is from the inside. So some golfers yank the club way inside early in their backswing thinking this will allow them to hit from the inside. These golfers are shocked when they still hit the golf ball from the outside. Hitting the golf ball from the inside comes from proper hip and shoulder action at the start of the downswing. You can take the club back way outside and still hit the ball from the inside – look at Jim Furyk – he takes the club way back to the outside however his move from the top of the swing is pure and from the inside. 4. The Golf Club Is On The Same Plane Going Back As It Is Coming Down. Again, this golf swing tip has been misguiding golfers for generations. The path of the clubface is much more to the inside during the downswing than during the backswing in a sound golf swing. This is because a proper golf swing has a lateral shift of the hips which drops the club into the all important “slot” early in the downswing. This action of the left hip automatically puts the path of the clubface much more to the inside than the path going back. 5. Turn The Hips To The Left To Start The Downswing. This golf fallacy causes golfers to “spin out” during the downswing and the result is a total mis-hit of the golf ball. Turning the hips to start the downswing forces you to throw the golf club to the outside causing terrible mis-hits. Again, the correct move is a lateral shift of the left hip to start the downswing and the hips will then turn automatically. It is possible to NOT have this lateral shift and still turn the hips from the top – however, it is IMPOSSIBLE to have the lateral shift of the left hip to start the downswing and the hips NOT turn. Hit ‘em Long and Straight!John Lynch
