The Real Secret To The Ben Hogan Golf Swing

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

By John Lynch What was the real secret to the Ben Hogan Golf Swing? Dr. Bob Rotella (Doc) the sports psychologist stated in his book “Golf is Not a Game of Perfect” he interviewed Ben Hogan shortly before Hogan’s death in 1997. Rotella asked Hogan what the real secret to his golf swing was? Hogan replied he always told people his “secret” was the cupping of his left wrist at the top of his backswing which eliminated the nasty hook he had early in his career. Hogan then told Rotella the reason he said this was because people wanted to hear something mechanical about the swing – so he gave them what they wanted to hear. . . Which was a lie! Hogan went on to say it wasn’t until 1946 when he was 34 that he won his first major – the PGA Championship. He said he started winning major championships because he stopped being so mechanically minded on the course and began playing by “feel” and trusting his golf swing. Since the Ben Hogan golf swing at this point in his life was already fundamentally sound because of all those years of tireless practice, there was no need for him to think about his swing while under the extreme pressures of major championship golf. Hogan started to trust his golf swing out on the golf course and eliminated all those mechanical thoughts preventing him from entering the winner’s circle more often. Hogan learned how to take his golf swing from the practice range to the course. He said this was like lifting a ton of bricks off of him, freeing him to use his imagination and instinct rather than his ego driven intellect. Once Hogan began playing by feel on the course his golf game took a quantum leap! He began to score, and score often. . . The result, 9 major championships! Everyone always thought (and still do) Hogan’s golf swing secret was the cupping of his left wrist at the top of the backswing which prevented him from hooking the ball – a demon he struggled with for a decade. Hogan said you need to trust whatever golf swing you bring to the course and simply react to your target. The time to tinker with your golf swing is NOT out on the course but on the practice range. . . This is the “real” secret to the Ben Hogan Golf Swing! Now you know the real secret to the Ben Hogan Golf Swing!

In fact, it might even get into an area on the grass that you’d have a hard time hitting it right back into course. If you want to get better at your game, you can observe those professional golfers and see how they play their game. They do drills with their clubs and make sure that they are holding these properly. They also double check whether they have the right posture that would deliver the strongest swing and would take the ball to where they want it to go in the first place. Learning the proper golf swing mechanics involves focus and concentration when it comes to the capabilities of your body. It’s all about understanding the golf swing mechanics and also training your golf muscles, as well as your body to keep doing that swing that you have mastered from the beginning of the game to the 18th hole. If you keep your momentum up like that and your golf swing mechanics are consistent, chances are you will do well in your game. As a golfer, you must understand that there is the need for the right approach to golf swing mechanics. Once perfected, this will save you from so many years of playing golf wrong and hundreds of dollars for those lessons, equipments, and training when you could have achieved what you wanted in your game at a cheaper rate if you just took the time to practice. Golf Swing Fundamentals – How To Practice Your Way To Better Golf

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

In golf, everything begins and ends with your swing. If you have a great golf swing, your score will improve, if not you can only play the game so well and progress no further. So obviously spending plenty of time crafting and honing your golf swing is time well spent if you want to be a good golfer. So here are the things you should pay attention to to get the best results as you practice the fundamentals of the golf swing.
First of all, its a great idea to have a golf pro take some time to work with you on a personal level and help analyze your swing. Their unbiased critique of your swing can help you learn more than you ever could on your own or by just watching videos alone. No doubt your golf instructor will help make sure that your grip is as neutral as possible and that your equipment matches your body type in order to get the best results in your golf game. But they will also help you perfect your alignment as you address the ball, showing you a helpful pre-shot routine to make sure that you line up correctly for each shot. If you are using the right grip and aligning yourself properly for each shot you are well ahead of most other golfers out there.
Once your grip and alignment is right, your golf instruction will continue to the mechanics of the swing itself, including the takeaway, the backswing, the top of the swing, the down swing, and the follow through and finish. Once you learn all the basic components of a good golf swing and combine them with what you have already learned about how to grip your clubs and how to align your body at address, you are well on your way to being an above average golfer.
But none of this can happen if you don’t practice everything you learn until it becomes second nature. In fact, a good golf swing should not have to be thought about much beforehand, it should be almost on autopilot, so that it is repeated over and over again while on the course. The memory of good swing fundamentals should be in the muscles of your body and not just in your head. In order to accomplish this, you will need to spend plenty of time in practice, but not necessarily hitting balls while you practice. A common mistake that many golfers make is to go to the range and just hit one ball after another while making slight adjustments as they go. They think that this qualifies as swing practice, but it doesn’t. It usually just cements bad swing characteristics even more into our muscle memory.
So when you practice, plan on making lots of practice swings, without hitting a single ball. If you learn the swing itself, hitting the ball properly will automatically follow. So practice in front of a mirror if you can or on the range, but put more time into the swing itself than in just hitting balls.
Once you are ready to start hitting some practice balls, be sure that you use all the clubs in your bag too. Don’t just favor those that you feel most comfortable with or just the ones that hit the ball the farthest. You can never get good at using a club if you don’t spend time using it. If a particular club seems hard for you to master, ask your golf instructor to watch you use it and see if they have some suggestions on how to get better results with it.
Finally expect that building a good golf swing will take time. It will not happen overnight or in a week or so. Be patient and follow the guidance of your golf instructor, always asking for help as you go. If you do, and if you put in the practice time needed, you can expect to master the fundamentals of a great golf swing, and play much better golf as you do.

Why, Oh Why, Is The Golf Swing SO Hard?!

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

Why do we find a move that seems so easy to the professionals so incredibly difficult to perform?
Recently I discovered that psychologists believe that we learn differently as adults than we do when we were children. And I believe this may be the key to explaining why we have such a difficult time of it.
The large majority of professional golfers will have taken up golf when they were kids – Tiger Woods was swinging a club well at 3!
But, I would imagine the majority of amateur golfers took golf up when either in their late teens, early twenties or even later in life – as adults.
The psychologists believe that as children we learn from repeating the model that we see – we know that kids are very trusting of what they are told. Yes, they ask lots of questions but they trust the answers given. They see, and are told, and DO.
Now as adults we learn differently. We have already formed opinions about how the world is and how things operate. So when we learn something new we actually test it against the rules that we have already built up in our heads as to what is right and wrong.
Unfortunately for us, the golf swing is actually illogical. That’s where the problem stems from. In our heads we can’t actually accept or believe that that is how the golf swing works. We then trust our instinct and test it against our rules and go back to what we believe is logical.
Here is what is illogical about the golf swing:
A Golf Swing without Effort = A Powerful 300 yard drive
It’s been said before that the secret to the pros swing is that it achieves ‘Power WITHOUT Effort – how illogical is that!
It’s a bit like saying we’re going on a 200 mile car journey, but we’re not going to turn the engine on! No ones going to believe you.
That’s how our brains interpret it – we think there’s no way you can hit a golf ball 300 yards without LOTS of effort.
So next time we coil up on the backswing our brain tells our muscles ‘right guys we need plenty of effort if we’re going to send this ball long and straight’.
Pro’s do actually put effort into their swings to get the ball to go that far (look at Tiger Woods face just before impact and you’ll see what I mean) BUT they put it in at a completely different point in the swing to amateur golfers. They also know the technique that allows them to produce such great results – and it doesn’t involve power, certainly not how the amateur golfer understands it.
Amateur golfers think you need to start the golf swing powerfully BUT the pro golfers know that you put the effort in at the bottom of the swing.
If you try and take this point on board this will start the process of adjusting your mind.
Over the next few pages I’m going to OPEN your EYES to how the golf swing actually works – much of which us amateurs don’t appreciate.
Understanding is the 1st key to unlocking your golfing potential.
Towards the end of my book I’ll show you where to get a piece of software that will by-pass your conscious mind and reprogram your sub-conscious mind to believe what you will see and start to understand about how the pro golf swing works. How YOU can swing powerfully without effort.
EYE-OPENER No. 2
What part of the body contributes the most to generating the maximum speed of the club head?
This single answer allowed me to make a huge leap in my understanding of the golf swing, and in everything I had seen and read about the golf swing none of it emphasised it enough.
I carried out a survey on the Internet over several weeks and asked visitors to my web site the question:- What part of the body contributes the most to generating the maximum speed of the club head?
Only 20% got the answer correct – That’s only 1 in every 5 golfers! And these golfers had a wide range of handicaps down to single figures.
Interestingly this figure corresponds to another golfing statistic – Did you know that only around 20% of golfers have a handicap of less than 18? It made me wonder whether the misunderstanding of the fundamental aspect could be the one thing that is holding so many golfers back.
Which part of the body do you think creates the maximum speed of the club head?
Is it:
Shoulders
Arms
Hands
Hips
Legs
Torso
wrists
(Graphics and explanations omitted here)
. . . . So the answer to the question that I posed above is that it is the hands (or wrists) that contribute the most to generating the maximum club head speed. The club is moved through over 180 degrees whilst the arms move through less than 60 degrees – all of the rest of the movement of the head of the golf club is generated by the movement of the hands. Unfortunately the large majority of golfers think that it is with the shoulders and arms.

Jon Barrett WAS a frustrated golfer who studied the golf swing for 5 years in search of information to make his scores tumble but without success. . . UNTIL he discovered what only 1% of golfers know. Read about his eye opening concepts: http://www. golfswingeureka. com

How To Use Different Types Of Drills To Improve A Good Driver Golf Swing?

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Many amateurs, even professional golfers are always on a lookout on how to improve their driver golf swing, but sometimes they are also unsure how to? All is needed is a few drills that will provide for the development of the golf skills that make for a great swing. There is no better way to learn the game of golf better and improve your swing with a set of practice drills.
Therefore, it is important to be aware what are the different types of drills to improve your swing.
What are actually golf drills?
Golf drills are a series of isolated exercises designed to develop a specific attribute or skill in one’s golf game.
They may look odd or out of place as the drills sometimes look quite different than how would look actually playing a game of golf.
That is ok. Drills are drills, they are not a golf game! They are merely a set of exercises designed to provide the basis of one’s attributes and skills. Of course, a real practise will prove a better score than just drills.
Here are the various types of driver drill.
The Easy Driver Drill
This is a classic driver golf swing drill. Basically, you head out to the driving range with one goal in mind: hitting the 150 flag. This drill will definitely help improve your driver golf swing in a short amount of time.
The Hip Turn Drill
This is an oddball golf swing drill, but it can also be applied to other clubs as well. This drill works on developing hip alignment and, in some instances, is used as a trick shot gimmick.
In this drill, one stands with their body square and swings the driver one armed. It may seem like an odd drill, but it does wonders for developing hip rotation.
Give no Quarter Drill
This is another oddball drill that is utilized for not only the development of a driver golf swing, but all kinds of swings. The purpose of the “Give No Quarter Drill” is to help develop a strong sense of balance in one’s swing. This is achieved by placing a quarter on one’s golf shoes when swinging. Sounds odd? Maybe it is, but it is also an effective “alarm system” for a golfer with bad balance.
Basically, the golfer places a quarter on the toe of their lead leg. The object is simple: keep the quarter from falling off when practising that driver golf swing? Does it sound too easy?
If you have great balance, then it will be too easy. If that quarter keeps sliding off, then it isn’t as easy as you thought it would be, now is it?
Of course, drills are afterall drills, it is not the real thing as compare to an actual game on the golf course. Go the course and start your real practise is even better and practical.
As stated before, drills are not the actual game itself, but a series of exercises designed to develop attributes. If one invests the proper amount of time in these drills, one will eventually develop that great swing one covets!

Why Are We Releasing The Greatest Driver Golf Swing Tip?

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Every golfers whether they are professionals or amateurs wants a little secret or tip when it comes to a perfectly good golf swing. They are searching for that “holy grail” of golf.
Well, the greatest driver golf swing tip ever to get out is that there is no secret tip or technique that can make you the best golfer on the planet Earth; if there was don’t you think everyone would be playing in the PGA. Everybody would be like Tiger Woods.
What is the hardest club in the bag?
Every golfer knows that the driver is perhaps the hardest club in the bag to use because it’s the biggest club you have which makes it very intimidating mentally and physically. Therefore, the golfer needs lots of strength to lift it in order to execute a good golf swing.
A golf swing tip is that golf is a sport and for most sports you have to have some kind of physical conditioning. This doesn’t mean that you have to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger in his youth to hit that tiny little ball, but you need to be in good form.
Good form is another good driver golf swing tip.
How to achieve good form?
There is a price to pay when it comes to have good form in golfing. If you don’t have good form then the game is over and the only way to achieve good form is to practice a technique that is taught to you by a qualified golf instructor.
You don’t have to pay millions of dollars to get good instructions, most of your public golf courses have instructors to help you out and for around twenty-five bucks a lesson that’s not a bad deal. Remember, unless you are on a shoe-string budget, then hiring a freelance instructors would definitely saves you lots of time.
You should only need a few lessons and once you learn the basic technique, practice that technique until you can hit the ball off the tee. Also the instructor will have some valuable driver swing tips that you can apply as you progress in your golfing skills.
Some basic tips.
The first driver golf swing tip is to warm up before going to the first tee. If you have ever played the game of golf or watched the game then you have seen the tee shot and you know that the golf swing in not the most natural move a body can make.
The pro’s can make it look so easy and graceful but they have years of experience and practice. They have conditioned their bodies for the swing. So warm up first, stretch the “golf” muscles before the first swing.
Some basic simple exercises.
Arm circles are a great way to warm up the shoulder muscles. Toe touches for the lower back and hamstrings. Mid section twist; hold a golf club (doesn’t matter which one) on top of your shoulders and with your feet about shoulder length apart slowly twist your mid section as far as you can to one side hold for a few seconds and do the other side. Do this a couple of times.
After the Warm-up
After you warm up don’t let the body cool down do some stretches on the course to keep the “golf” muscles warm. This doesn’t mean that you have to run around the course while waiting for your turn, it simply means that while you are waiting for your chance on the tee take out your driver and swing it at about fifty percent of what you would normally swing off the tee. This exercise is efficient enough to keep the body from getting stiff while waiting your turn.
That’s why it is rather important to have warm up exercises before the actual session, besides have good form, you also will minimize back injuries as you are aware that the driver is the hardest club in your bag.

Golf Swing Mechanics, Learn the Proper Ones!

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Every golfer appears ready to do anything to develop more power in his/her golf swing. A common question asked by golfers is: where does that power come from? The answer is simple: golf swing power is the result of three specific factors – golf swing mechanics, golf strength, and golf equipment.
The inclusion of golf swing mechanics in this list of three should not come as a surprise. Nor for that matter the inclusion of golf equipment. But golf strength seems to be the least recognized of the three, though for it is the key to longer drives. Golf strength is defined as how well your body is conditioned to swing a golf club with maximum power.
There is no doubt that quality golf equipment is also capable of making a difference in how far you drive the ball.
While admitting that equipment and technological advances can lengthen the distance of your drives, it should be kept in mind that without better golf swing mechanics and without getting your body in better golf shape, new technology can do little to help your game. A bad swing can only produce a bad result, no matter what kind of new driver you may have just purchased.
Every golfer realizes how important golf swing mechanics are when it comes to driving the ball down the fairway. Good golf swing mechanics are, in fact, essential. If you are over the top with your swing or come inside too much, you are certain to see that dreaded slice or snap hook. The drives will be short, too low, too high, left, right, or any combination of these if you are putting bad swings on the ball.
It is important for a golfer to work constantly on his golf swing mechanics if he/she is keen on improving his/her game. It is because of the vital role of golf swing mechanics that the best golfers in the world have swing coaches working with them on a consistent basis. The golf swing is such a fine, mechanically complex movement that it requires constant work to keep it highly efficient.
Amateurs often make the mistake of ignoring the availability of golf instruction.
They fail to make noticeable improvement in driving primarily because of a lack of instruction, and low levels of golf strength. The absence of instruction leads to the development and ingraining of improper golf swing mechanics. Such improper mechanics lead to slices, hooks, topping the ball, and hitting it fat on the course. Naturally, those types of swings can lead to frustration and bad rounds of golf. Every golfer interested in seriously improving his/her game should find a good instructor of golf swing mechanics and take lessons on a consistent basis.

Free Golf Swing Tip

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Golf swing tips are now almost everywhere. On the tv, surfing the internet, or in your favority magazine you can find a free golf tip from someone. Not to mention your pals who are ready to offer you a free golf swing tip whenever you are looking for one. Online golf tips are quickly becoming the information source of choice for golfers, the information age has made it easier then ever to get the answer. So the question we need to ask ourselves is, does a free golf swing tip give us the help we need or send us on a wild goose chase? If you spend some time researching you’ll find that some free golf swing tips are better left alone. Because not all free tips are created equal some professionals and instructors suggest it’s best for golfers to just ignore any free swing tips. You should evaluate what the free golf swing tip is asking you to do. For instance a tip telling you to swing at the ball with all your strength is seriously incorrect. Some golfers are seen doing just that how ever, attacking the ball with such strength it’s almost impossible they won’t injure themselves at the same. Another improper tip is to twist over the wrists in an effort to increase the club head speed right before contact is made with the ball. Like the last free golf swing tip mentioned twisting of the wrists is likely to cause injury as well. The right free golf swing tip will help develop the correct exercises and techniques that condition the golfers body to do the work rather then just b. A genuine free golf swing tip should increase strength in the golf muscles, leading to better results. Particular free golf swing tips will help build more strength and power in your swing, helping you play a better game over time. Any free golf swing tip that emphasizes this point is bound to be genuine and may have a positive effect on your golf swing. One thing that free golf swing tips do, is help the golfer thing more about your swing mechanics rather then just focusing on driving the ball hundreds of yards into the fairway, or dropping it in the cup on the green. Of course it’s difficult to know if the person supplying you with the free golf swing tips is a genuine instructor or pro. Of course there is no better way to determine this then to use your own judgment before you begin to learn a new technique or practice a new drill. Everyone has an opinion on how a proper golf swing should be done, as well as what technique or drill you should be practicing to increase your drive.
